Hemorrhoids Surgery
Hemorrhoids Surgery ( Piles Surgery )- Information you need before your operation
My Experience On Hemorrhoids Surgery - Piles Surgery, What Works And Don’t.
You came to this hemorrhoids surgery page. Hmm… I guess your doctor has recommended it?
Well, if you do not have any other symptoms like polyps and it’s only piles or hemorrhoids, then try my recommended natural hemorrhoids cure first. Some claim it works and cancelled their piles surgery operation. Read on if you want to know more on hemoroid surgey.
Non- painful Hemorroids Surgery Options
Piles Banding – This can be applied to 1st, 2nd and some 3rd degree piles. This procedure is usually done in an outpatient clinic. Some surgeons give you local anaesthetic , some like mine perform this without sedation. It will take 5 minutes to do and you can go home afterward.
Hemorrhoid is grasped by the surgeon with forceps or a suction device. The surgeon will then place a rubber band inside your rectum at the base of the hemorroid. This will cut off the blood supply to the piles which will then die and drop off after a few days.
I can tell you it was very unpleasent sitting or standing for a few days and you have to apply some oinment to the area for a few days as well.
Sadly, as I have been told by the operated surgeon, there is a chance ( 2 out of 10 ) that hemorroid will return and further banding may require. Guest what? He was right!
Injection Sclerotherapy – Phenolin oil is injected at the base of the hemorrhoids. This causes a fibrotic reaction to which obliterates the blood vessels going to the hemorrhoids. The piles then dies and drops off.
Does this hemoid surgery work ? Well, I have not had this but heard it from another hemmorrhoid sufferer in the hospital that it was similar to piles banding and his piles returned after this hemoid surgery!
Haemorrhoidectomy – The Traditional Hemorrhoids Surgery ( painful)
This is an operation to cut away the piles/ hemorrhoids. This piles surgery or hemroid surgery depends on who you talk to or even haemorrhoidtecomy ( medical terms) is very painful and tiring. This is needed after piles banding and other methods failed. If you suffer from severe bleeding like me and /or all other methods have failed, then your doctor would recommend this operation.
The operation is done under general anaesthetic and takes about 20 minutes. If you have someone to look after you after the operation, you can usually go home a few hours after coming out of the recovery ward, otherwise you need to stay overnight to allow time for the general anaesthesia to wear off.
You need at least 3 to 4 weeks to recover. I also heard from other hemorrhoids sufferers that piles can return after the operation! Unless you have no options, avoid this hemorrhoids surgery using this alternative natural treatment that I recommend.
My Haemorrhoidtecomy- Piles Surgery Experience ( This probably will apply to any new patients like yourself )
I was asked to be examined about 1 month before my operation in the hospital that would operate on me. They did some blood test, ( to see if it will clot, checking iron level ), MRSA test, general physical checks and asked very detailed questions on whether I was having any other health problems. This was to determine if the operation could go ahead or not.
I was given a fact sheet and there was a small section on “Complications of Hemorrhoid Surgery”. This frightened me a bit. I am not sure if all hospitals are like that and meant to tell you all the disclaimers and risks!
This was also repeated just a few minutes before my hemorrhoids surgery operation in the hospital. I was tempted to cancel the operation! Are they trying to cover themselves in the event of being ” sued” if things go wrong!
Here are some of the disclaimers / risks of surgery on Complications.
- Anaesthesia – there could be side effect and patients have died before as a result.
- Incontinence.
- Difficulty passing urine.
- Anal stenosis.
- Developing skin tag.
- Developing an anal fissure
- Infection to surgical wounds
- Blood clots in the legs (deep-vein thrombosis), which can occasionally move through the bloodstream to the lungs ( pulmonary embolus ), making it difficult for you to breath.
And I heard one patient who had the operation one day earlier, had the complication and had to stay for another day!
Hemorrhoids Surgery Recovery After Your Operation
They claim you can return to your normal activity within 3 to 4 weeks. It took me 5 weeks to fully recover. I took all the medicines prescribed within the 1 st week and it was still painful.
During that time, I suffered from my recurring varicose veins ( very tiring). Getting agitated all the time. Feeling like shouting at peolpe even when children were playing quietly! I could not sit on normal chair, nor even sit on soft seat like sofa for more than 10 minutes. There was a feeling of wanting to go to empty my bowel when standing up or even when I took a slow walk.
Pardon the language, it was really pain in the bum. I was struggling to pass stools within first 2 days after the operation and when that was over after taking lactose ( stool softener), I felt sharp pain every time I pass stool. It was so painful that I literally jumped up. Then every time I drink tea, I have to do a number ” 2 ” and it hurts like hell. I had to wear pad for a few weeks and change them quite often. I was advised to take a shower twice a day and wash my behind after each bowel movement to stop possible infection after defecation.
Then 6 weeks later, you go back to the hospital for a “follow check up”. I bled a little the following day after the surgeon looked inside to see if the surgical wound had healed. The surgeon then ordered a routine ” Flexible Sigmoidoscopy ” to see if anything is still present to cause my intermitten internal bleeding . This was not pleasent either!
So is this hemorroids surgey / pile surgery worth it?
If I did not have a polyp, I would not have this hemoroid surgey operation. The pain and suffering afterward was unbearable. So far ( less than 1 year , plies have not returned yet). I Just hope my piles won’t return as my other member of family also had this done and piles returned after 1 year and is now using the recommended natural hemorrhoids treatment ( so will I if my hemorrhoids returns ).
My advise to you if you are thinking or have been recommended by your doctor to have this hemorrhoids surgery, put it on hold. There is a method that may help you. Depending on the severity, some sufferers have them cured within 48 hours.
